Melqart Dies and Is Resurrected (Carthaginian/Tunisia) Melqart (Melkart), a Phoenician god, chief deity of Tyre and of two of its colonies, Carthage and Gadir (Cadiz), was also called the Tyrian Baal. Protector of the mother city, Tyre, Melkart had to die annually before being resurrected.
