Qld: Gold Coast Uni student diagnosed with TB

A female student at Griffith University's Gold Coast campus has been diagnosed with tuberculosis.

Queensland Health says 1,600 students and staff at the campus will be screened forthe potentially deadly disease in a staged process beginning on Monday.

Acting director of specialised health services, Dr TOM KONSTANTINOS, says close contactsof the woman have shown no signs of the disease.

It's the second case of tuberculosis at the university in four years.

In March 1998, a male student died of the disease.

The latest victim is said to be recovering.
