SA: Boy found after wandering away from fatal accident scene

ADELAIDE, Dec 8 AAP - A six-year-old boy was found walking along a South Australian
country road this morning several hours after a car crash in which his mother reportedly
died.

The boy was not seriously hurt, police said. They could not immediately confirm the
death of his mother in the accident east of Adelaide.

Police said a car had been involved in a serious crash near Walker Flat some time after
1am (CDT) on the Walker Flat to Nildottie Road.

Police said a local ferry operator who found the crashed car about two hours later
had contacted police telling them that a young child might be missing.

It is believed the ferry operator had seen the vehicle some time before the accident.

A search involving a helicopter and State Emergency Service and Country Fire Service
(CFS) staff began immediately.

The CFS crew spotted the young boy about 6am today.

He was taken to the Murray Bridge Hospital to be checked.
